Frank J. Mrvan, Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, that extends crucial veteran benefit programs. Specifically, this legislation, H.R. 5293, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Expiring Authorities Act of 2021, would extend certain programs that are expected to expire at the end of this fiscal or calendar year. For example, the measure would permanently extend VA’s Dental Insurance Program, which allows qualifying veterans, survivors, and dependents to purchase discounted dental insurance coverage. The measure also would extend for one year the authority of VA to provide travel reimbursement for veterans who reside in rural areas to reach the nearest Vet Center, and also extend a pilot program that allows VA to accept donations from approved non-federal entities for buildings and land that will improve long-term infrastructure and health care services from VA. Congressman Mrvan stated, “Thank you to Chairman Takano and all of the Committee leaders for their cooperation to advance this critical legislation for our veterans. Throughout my career, I have met with countless veterans who struggled with dental issues and access to care.
