Mrvan announced federal grant awards for the Cities of East Chicago, Gary, and Hammond under the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant program. The SS4A Grant program was created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Congressman Mrvan supported and was signed into law during the 117th Congress. According to the DOT, the SS4A Grant program aims to improve roadway safety by supporting communities in developing plans to implement infrastructure projects designed to reduce transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries. The City of East Chicago will receive $240,000, the City of Gary will receive $140,000, and the City of Hammond will receive $80,480 in SS4A grants to develop city-wide comprehensive safety action plans to aim to eliminate roadway fatalities. Congressman Mrvan stated, “Congratulations to all of the leaders and public servants in the Cities of East Chicago, Gary, and Hammond for successfully obtaining and utilizing this federal resource.
