I whole-heartedly applaud President-Elect Biden's historic nomination of my good friend and colleague Deb Haaland to be the next Secretary of Interior, and the first Native American Cabinet Secretary in U.S. history. The appointment of a Secretary of Interior who understands the importance of conserving our public lands, protecting our environment and tackling the climate crisis will truly benefit Coloradans and benefit our planet immensely. Secretary-Designate Haaland and I were both elected to Congress as part of the historic Class of 2018 I have greatly enjoyed serving with her on the House Natural Resources Committee, and am proud to call her a friend and treasured colleague. Throughout her time in Congress and as the Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Committee, she has fought back against the destructive acts and policies of the Trump Administration. Under her leadership, historic public lands bills including the Great American Outdoors Act and the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation Management and Recreation Act became law. She has also been a leader on tackling the climate crisis and has significant experience working and living in Indian Country, having served Native communities as a tribal administrator and an organizer fighting for tribal voting rights. I look forward to working with Secretary-Designate Haaland and the Biden Administration to deliver important environmental priorities for Colorado, such as final passage of the CORE Act, setting a bold climate action agenda and more. ### Next Article Previous Article | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
