https://neguse.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-neguse-introduces-amendment-restrict-federal-wild-horse-roundups Rep. Neguse Introduces Amendment to Restrict Federal Wild Horse Roundups 2022-07-18 2022 2022-07 Democrat House CO Joe Neguse N000191 neguse.house.gov neguse https://neguse.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse, Chair of the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, introduced an amendment to H.R. 8294, the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY 23) Appropriations Minibus, that would eliminate funding of roundups or gatherings of wild free-roaming horses and burros that use helicopters or fixed-wing air crafts. Neguse’s latest actions come the same month as the U.S. Bureau of Land Management intends to thin the Piceance East Douglas herd by 750 animals, despite objections from advocates, Colorado Governor, Jared Polis, and the Congressman himself. Read a June letter from Congressman Neguse requesting the agency delay and reevaluate Colorado’s next wild horse roundup here. “I am deeply concerned about BLM moving forward with these roundups. We must reevaluate and reconsider the methods in which we manage these herds, ensuring that we are doing so cost-effectively and humanely.” said Congressman Neguse.
