Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) today released the following statement after voting against the two-year federal budget deal: On process, policy, and priorities, this budget takes several steps in the wrong direction. Instead of promoting fiscal responsibility and careful planning, this budget is a result of waiting until the last-minute threat of a debt default. Washingtonians are frustrated with the way their federal government has operated, simply delaying crises until there are no good choices. Not only does this agreement fail to rein in the federal budget by authorizing billions in additional spending beyond limits set by the Budget Control Act, but it simultaneously harms farmers and rural communities. In order to fund additional spending increases elsewhere, this budget guts crop insurance that was already cut in last years Farm Bill, threatening protections for farmers and agriculture producers. This budget contains provisions requiring site-neutrality for reimbursements to hospitalswith real consequences for small rural communities access to vital medical services. Fiscal responsibility and common sense demand better, as do American taxpayers, farmers and rural communities, which is why I could not support this deal. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
