Newhouse Statement on President Obamas Veto of National Defense Authorization Act 2015-10-22 2015 2015-10 Republican House WA Dan Newhouse N000189 newhouse.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released a statement following President Obamas veto of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA): The American people understand exactly what this is: the President is playing politics with defense by holding the national defense authorization bill hostage to advance his own big-spending domestic agenda. Providing for the common defense is the foremost constitutional duty of the federal government. This bill gives the men and women of our Armed Forces the resources they need at the levels requested by the President. Pitting increased domestic spending against resources for our men and women overseas in harms way is wrong. Congress must override the Presidents veto to ensure our national security. In May, Rep. Newhouse voted in favor of H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In addition to providing for our national defense and overseas operations, the NDAA authorizes funding for the Richland Operations Office (RL) and for the Office of River Protection (ORP) to continue cleanup at Hanford. In April, Rep. Newhouse successfully led a request to the House Armed Services Committee for strong support for Hanford cleanup in the National Defense Authorization Act, which was provided in this NDAA. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
