Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today voted to support legislation honoring the contributions of 260,000 Filipino and Filipino-American soldiers who fought for the United States in World War II. The Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act awards the United States Congressional Gold Medal to Filipino and Filipino-American soldiers for their wartime service. The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award that Congress can award. Rep. Norcross is a proud sponsor of the legislation, and previously urged his colleagues to bring this important bill to a vote. “These soldiers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with America’s fighting forces during the Second World War. Their service and sacrifice cannot be understated and must never be forgotten,” said Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01). “That’s why I proudly stand for this bipartisan legislation, providing well-deserved recognition that’s not only long overdue—but also symbolizes America’s gratitude for the efforts of these heroes during some of America’s darkest days, ensuring our country would enjoy a brighter future.” The legislation is part of a larger movement to recognize Filipino and Filipino-American World War II soldiers throughout the United States and the Philippines for their crucial wartime service to the United States and Allied victory over the Empire of Japan. “Filipinos & Filipino-Americans have made and continue to make significant contributions to America and its rich history.
