The week-long, multi-state road trip showcased the many ways school communities are helping students recover and thrive, putting them on the road to success. Congressman Norcross, along with New Jersey Acting Commissioner of Education Angelica Allen-McMillan, Camden City Mayor Vic Carstarphen, and Camden City School District Superintendent Katrina McCombs, toured Camden High School with Secretary Cardona, where they learned about its partnership with the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS), a new coalition that supports the expansion, launch, and improvement of high-impact tutoring, mentoring, and other programs to help students recover academically, and support student mental health and overall wellbeing. The NPSS follows President Biden’s call for more tutors and mentors in his 2022 State of the Union Address to help students recover from the pandemic and promote college and career readiness. “Investing in our students and teachers is critically important for the wellbeing of our children," said Congressman Norcross. "The National Partnership for Student Success is ensuring our kids are prepared for what comes next: whether it’s college, learning a trade, entering public or military service. The career readiness of the next generation is critical to our success as a city, region, and nation – and that starts with a high-quality education and job training. I want to thank Secretary Cardona for coming back to Camden to see the partnerships our schools and communities are creating to support South Jersey students and educators.” A senior member of the House Education and Labor Committee, Congressman Norcross is a champion of programs that support educators and students so that equitable educational opportunities – be they vocational training programs and apprenticeships or traditional classroom schooling – are accessible in South Jersey. Since the pandemic, he has helped to pass the American Rescue Plan, which made historic investments in South Jersey’s K-12 schools and universities, helping kids return to and stay in class safely.
