Specifically, Rowan University will receive $273,047 for research under the direction of Dr. Shen Shyang Ho, as well as $1,499,977 in federal funding for research directed by Dr. Kaitlin Mallouk. Read more about the projects here and here. “These federal dollars will allow South Jersey’s brightest to continue leading the way in research and development,” said Congressman Norcross. “Rowan University has established itself as a leader in scientific innovation, making remarkable breakthroughs and preparing the next generation of innovators. I’m proud to help strengthen our community’s workforce by supporting this funding and look forward to seeing the results of their research.” “Machines can be taught to detect unusual patterns in complex systems, allowing for the real-time detection of problems, such as fraud, suspicious behavior, manufacturing defects, power outages or even disease,” said Dr. Shen-Shyang Ho, associate professor of computer science at Rowan University. “With this grant from the National Science Foundation, we intend to design a reliable and effective framework for detecting anomalies, provide accurate, early warnings and explain why they are happening, so decision-makers, government agencies and the general public can respond accordingly.” This announcement followed Congressman Norcross’s steady effort to expand research opportunities for South Jersey students. This summer, Congressman Norcross fought to pass the CHIPS and Science Act, which delivers approximately $141 billion to promote innovative research and supercharge technological advances across the country. In August 2022, Norcross nearly $1.5 million in federal grants to bolster climate science and engineering in South Jersey.
