Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to rename a post office location in Minneapolis, Minnesota after the late Charles W. “Chuck” Lindberg. Lindberg was a highly decorated U.S. Marine Corps corporal who fought in World War II and was one of the marines who raised the first American flag over Iwo Jima (not to be confused with aviator Charles Lindbergh). Lindberg’s military awards include the Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. He lived in Richfield, Minnesota for five decades until he passed away in 2007. He was laid to rest at for Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. "I am glad the House passed my legislation to honor Charles W. Lindberg through the Post Office renaming process,” said Rep. Omar. “Charles served our country with distinction and honor during World War II. As one of the marines who raised the first American flag over Iwo Jima, he dedicated his life to raising awareness of the first flag-raising and the sacrifices made by veterans throughout the war. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker’s – IBEW Local 292 – and had a JATC Electrical Training Center named in honor of him just weeks before he passed away.
