My number one goal is ensuring we're giving assistance to those who need it most while giving able-bodied persons, without dependents, the opportunity to contribute through minimal work requirements and job training programs. There are a lot of folks who will claim we don't care about the poor. That's simply not true. This is a responsible measure that makes some of the most serious assistance reforms since welfare was addressed in 1996. I believe it will restore integrity to a troubled program. The Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act would reform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and close loopholes to save taxpayers almost $40 billion. Palazzo also previously voted for nutrition assistance reforms this year as part of the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013, or FARRM Bill. Among its reforms, the bill would end the extension of waivers to able-bodied individuals under the age of 50 who have no dependents and receive benefits for longer than three months, enforce income thresholds, and empower states to engage recipients in job training programs. ### f t # e 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
