Murtha Launch 2014-10-30 2014 2014-10 Republican House MS Steven Palazzo P000601 palazzo.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) today congratulated Huntington Ingalls Industries on the launch of their 10th amphibious warship, the John P. Murtha (LPD 26). Last week, the 684-foot-long, 105-foot-wide LPD 26 was moved from land to Ingalls' floating drydock, in preparation of today's launch. With U.S. Navy and Coast Guard missions ranging from disaster relief to sea control expeditions, Ingalls' ships continue to provide integral support to our nation's armed forces and remain a point of pride in South Mississippi. I have always been proud of our Gulf Coast shipbuilders and every chance I get I tell everyone in Washington that the world's best shipbuilders are right here in South Mississippi. I applaud the work that they are doing on LPD-26 on budget and ahead of schedule. It goes to show what a dedicated shipbuilder with a hot production line can do for our Navy and Marine Corps. Ingalls, which is based out of Pascagoula, celebrated in 2013 its 75th year of building ships. The company has built more ships than any other U.S. naval shipbuilder, and with efforts to improve both cost and schedule LPD 26 is on track to be one of the company's best products to date. ### Palazzo is a Marine veteran of the Persian Gulf War and currently serves as a noncommissioned officer in the Mississippi National Guard. The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States recently awarded Palazzo with the G.V. Sonny Montgomery Eagle Award for his work on the House Armed Services Committee. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
