Republicans blocked it. “Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House, and have chosen to shut the government down rather than lower health care costs and reverse Trump's cuts to Medicaid. As I hear from constituents, they continue to tell me about the need for Washington to work together and solve problems, including lowering costs and keeping our communities safe. Republicans’ funding bill does nothing to address the high cost of living, ends vital support for small businesses, makes cuts to public safety for our local departments, and jeopardizes our national security. Their bill is a betrayal of working families, and I won’t support legislation that leaves Granite Staters worse off. “It is the basic duty of Congress to fund our government and keep it open. Until we’re able to do so, I won’t be taking a paycheck, because no member of Congress should be getting paid while our service members, public employees, and essential staff at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard aren’t.
