https://paulsen.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=22&itemid=2003 Paulsen Reaffirms Commitment to Pre-Existing Condition Protections 2018-09-13 2018 2018-09 Republican House MN Erik Paulsen P000594 paulsen.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTONCongressman Erik Paulsen reaffirmed his commitment to protecting access to healthcare for Americans with pre-existing conditions by co-sponsoring H.R. 1121, the Pre-Existing Conditions Protections Act. The bill aims to reaffirm guaranteed health care access, ensure that enrollees cannot have benefits excluded from a plan due to a pre-existing condition, and that patients will not pay more based on their health care status. I understand that people want and deserve clarity about preexisting protections and the law. Sick Americans don't deserve to be treated unfairly because they have a pre-existing condition through no fault of their own, said Congressman Paulsen. This legislation underscores the importance of preserving protections for Minnesotans with pre-existing conditions and guarantee they're able to access affordable health coverage. Specifically, the bill would maintain the: Requirement for health insurance to cover preexisting conditions, Requirement for health insurers to accept every employer and every individual applying for coverage, Prohibition against health insurers discriminating against individuals based on health status factors, Prohibition against collecting genetic information in connection with issuing health insurance, and Requirements for workplace wellness programs connected to health insurance. Last year, Paulsen voted in favor of the American Health Care Act, which included the following provision (Sec. 137(b)) SEC. 137. CONSTRUCTIONS. (b) NO LIMITING ACCESS TO COVERAGE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PREEXISTING CONDITIONS.Nothing in this Act shall be construed as permitting health insurance issuers to limit access to health coverage for individuals with preexisting conditions. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
