(January 17, 2018) Congressman Steve Pearce released the following statement after signing on to an Amicus Brief recommending the Supreme Court of the United States reverse the Ninth Circuits decision in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Xavier Becerra, Attorney General, challenging the constitutionality of Californias Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency (FACT) Act. The American people have a Constitutional right to religious freedom and conscience protections. This fundamental right in the First Amendment prevents the federal government from having the authority to compel a person or entity to take action that violates their faith and values. The California mandate is not only an assault on freedom of religion, but an assault on the values of all Americans who have the right to live out their own beliefs, free of oppression. It is simply wrong and goes against the individual freedoms our nation represents, stated Rep. Pearce. Religious liberties are for all Americans. I stand proud with my colleagues to support the rights of the unborn and sanctity of human life. Rep.
