https://perry.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398609 Perry Announces Winner of Inaugural Congressional App Challenge 2017-12-06 2017 2017-12 Republican House PA Scott Perry P000605 perry.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. – Congressman Scott Perry (PA-04) is excited to announce that Ian Cook of Mechanicsburg, a student at Cumberland Valley High School, is the winner of the 4th Congressional District’s inaugural Congressional App Challenge (CAC). The CAC was created to highlight the importance of STEM and computer-based skills and their critical role in economic growth and innovation.Ian’s app, “Mathematical Journey," is a fun, educational game for grade school kids to improve and practice basic math skills. Here's a demonstration of Ian’s app: https://youtu.be/3LkzunhqH-0. Ian’s app will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building, on House.gov and on the Congressional App Challenge website (http://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/.) Eight submissions were part of this year’s challenge - open to all high school students who reside in the 4th District. Apps were scored by three independent judges: John McElligott, Chief Executive Officer of York Exponential; Dominic Sinibaldi, Chief Operating Officer at York Exponential; and Eric Mueller, co-founder of Qrypdo. Congressman Perry sincerely appreciates the time and talents dedicated by these individuals to the App Challenge. By some estimates, the United States may need more than a million programmers by 2020; to maintain American competitiveness, we must encourage our youth to pursue and acquire these valuable skills. The Internet Education Foundation serves as the operational sponsor of the CAC. For more information about the CAC, please visit www.CongressionalAppChallenge.us. “We want to inspire 4th District students to explore STEM, coding and computer science as potential careers,” said Congressman Perry. “As such, we hope to make this an annual program and encourage all students to consider applying for next year’s App Challenge.” Residents are encouraged to contact Congressman Perry and his staff at any of his offices, or via Perry.House.Gov, where they can sign up for e-mail updates and for his Facebook, Twitter and You Tube pages. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
