The rejection of Trumpcare in the Senate is a testament to their dedication and courage. I’m grateful to both of Maine’s Senators for their solidarity in rejecting this effort which would have harmed individuals and communities across our state. I won’t stop fighting to preserve the Affordable Care Act’s fundamental consumer protections. But I also continue to recognize that the law can and should be improved. We must push toward a more accessible and affordable health care system. We won’t solve this until Congress can sit down and have a constructive, bipartisan conversation about a path forward. There are substantive and serious disagreements. I’m a longtime advocate for a single-payer system—others would prefer to deregulate the system entirely.
