The Maine Humanities Council and the University of Maine, Augusta will both receive $100,000 for public discussion programs. As the co-chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus, I've seen how the arts can bring people together and build understanding, said Pingree. These NEH grants will help to lift up diverse voices and increase access to cultural programming for all Mainers. I'm proud to have advocated for increased arts funding as a member of the House Appropriations committee and excited to see these projects come to fruition in Maine. The Maine Humanities Council's NEH funding will support programming for the Maine bicentennial celebration, beginning in 2020. The University of Maine, Augusta's NEH funding will support a 15-part speaker series called Maine's Midcentury Moment, a part of UMA's bicentennial programming, which will examine Maine's cultural contributions to midcentury arts, literature, entrepreneurial efforts, and the humanities. Pingree is the co-chair of the bi-partisan Congressional Arts Caucus. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies, where she oversees the NEA and arts funding.
