The funding comes from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG) and is awarded directly to fire departments, EMS organization, and state fire training academies. Firefighters who risk their lives every day need the best equipment and training possible, said Pingree. Having access to the latest technology is imperative for our firefighters to do their jobs successfully. This funding is welcome news and will go a long way to make improvements, strengthen existing facilities, and protect our communities and firefighters. Details of the grants are as follows: Portland, Maine: Federal share of $59,319 for 3 protective gear washers and 3 protective gear dryers. Buxton, Maine: Federal share of $454,255 A regional grant with Buxton, Gorham, Standish and Windham for 20 mobile radio repeaters, 100 firefighter pagers, 55 mobile radios, 31 headsets, and 180 portable radios. Standish, Maine: Federal share of $100,571 diesel fume source capture exhaust system. Yarmouth, Maine: Federal share of $185,333 for 28 firefighter breathing apparatus and 20 additional facepieces.
