McQuerry May 13, 2020 202-215-8524 PRESS STATEMENT CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY E. PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $2 MILLION GRANT FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (VIWMA) Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding an important $2 million grant for the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) for Emergency Protective Measures (EPM): Today, I am pleased to announce a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is for $2,444,715.00 in federal funding to the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA). This award provides federal funding for Emergency Protective Measures. Emergency Protective Measures are temporary measures taken against an incident. Emergency Protective Measures are actions taken before, during, and after an incident to save lives, protect public health and safety, and prevent damage to improved public and private property. This important grant will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with our ongoing rebuilding efforts and making the Virgin Islands whole again.
