PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $20 MILLION FEDERAL GRANT FOR THE CROWN BAY TERMINAL (CBT) REHABILITATION PROJECT 2020-09-30 2020 2020-09 Democrat House VI Stacey Plaskett P000610 plaskett.house.gov     legacy For Immediate Release Contact: Michael J. McQuerry September 30, 2020 202-215-8524 PRESS STATEMENT CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY E. PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $20 MILLION FEDERAL GRANT FOR THE CROWN BAY TERMINAL (CBT) REHABILITATION PROJECT Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (USVI), released the following statement regarding a $20 million federal grant for Virgin Islands Ports Authority: Today I am happy to announce a $20 million grant to the V.I. Ports Authority. Specifically, the Port Infrastructure Development grant will support the Crown Bay Terminal (CBT) Rehabilitation project. CBT is the primary facility for the import and export of goods to and from the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) and serves as an international transshipment port in the Caribbean and surrounding regions. This facility operating at peak efficiency is vital to the economy of the USVI and maintaining the United States' strong foothold in international commerce. The CBT project will increase cargo throughput, decrease vessel emissions, improve reliability of cargo transportation, improve water quality, and increase revenue for the Virgin Islands Port Authority revenue that would allow them to support future terminal enhancement and expansion. Further, this project leverages private investment as part of the overall project funding. The positive economic and environmental impacts of this project serve to provide the federal government a very positive return on investment. A majority of the raw and finished goods needed for rebuilding efforts come through CBT. It is of the utmost importance that the capacity and efficiency of CBT is maximized to expedite the rebuilding efforts, so that the USVI can again become a regional economic engine. The United States government and the international community has an obligation to work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help recover and build back our islands. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
