Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (USVI), Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy, and Environment released the following statement regarding four grants totaling over $50 million to go towards the rebuilding of the U.S. Virgin Islands associated with Hurricanes Maria and Irma:Today, I am pleased to announce four important grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The first grant is for $1,524,057.51 in federal funding which is to go towards hazard mitigation funding to the VI Ports Authority - St. Thomas to repair the airport terminal building that was damaged as a result of Hurricane Irma. The second grant is for $42,659,054.10 in federal funding to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital to install interim temporary facilities to support critical, and life-sustaining medical treatment needs to the St. Croix community. This funding is for Emergency Protective Measures to provide essential services as a result of Hurricane Maria. The third grant is for $2,004,537.50 in federal funding to the Office of the Adjutant General for the use of generators throughout the Virgin Islands as a direct result of Hurricane Maria. The fourth grant is for $1,111,970.95 in federal funding to the V.I. Department of Public Works for damages to roads, maintained by the department, as a direct result of Hurricane Maria. These important grants will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with our ongoing rebuilding efforts making the Virgin Islands whole again after experiencing two devastating hurricanes. The United States government and the international community must work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help recover and build back our islands. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
