Jared Polis, D-Boulder, will welcome over 150 guests to his Third-Annual Hemp Symposium and Legislative Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 26.  The free symposium will bring together experts from the many segments of the industrial hemp industry, connecting and developing this growing network.  In addition, it will serve to continue the conversation about the expansion of the hemp industry, and its economic impact on both Colorado and our nation as a whole. Hemp is a growing industry in Colorado.  Colorado State University and the University of Colorado are researching ways to develop the new crop after Polis authored an amendment allowing research universities to study hemp.  In addition, Colorado is on the verge of having certified industrial hemp seed, which would provide continuity for the industry.  The schedule is as follows: 1:00 p.m., Polis gives welcome address about federal hemp legislation. 1:10 p.m., Panel conversation about the past, present, and future outlook of hemp in America.  Polis will be moderating. Panelists, include: Michael Bowman, National Hemp Association; Barbara Filippone, EnviroTextiles; Sean Murphy, Miracle Ventures; Morris Beegle, Colorado Hemp Company; Samantha Walsh, National Hemp Association; Rick Trojan, Industrial Hemp Research Foundation.  2:00 p.m., Small group breakout Session I: The sessions include: (1) Industrial Hemp and the Farm Bill, (2) USDA and Industrial Hemp, (3) Grants and Funding for Industrial Hemp, (4) Grassroots Revival, (5) State and Federal Intersection Regarding Industrial Hemp. 2:40 p.m., Small Group breakout Session II. The sessions include: (1) Industrial Hemp and the Farm Bill, (2) USDA and Industrial Hemp, (3) Grants and Funding for Industrial Hemp, (4) Grassroots Revival, (5) State and Federal Intersection Regarding Industrial Hemp. 3:15 p.m., Small groups reconvene into large group and discuss next steps. 4:00 p.m., Adjourn Polis is the lead Democratic sponsor of the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2015, a bill to eliminate the federal ban on hemp production and bring the crop back to American agriculture. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
