https://price.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/price-announces-76-million-federal-grant-raleigh-charlotte-intercity-rail Price Announces $76 Million Federal Grant for Raleigh-Charlotte Intercity Rail Service 2019-08-26 2019 2019-08 Democrat House NC David Price P000523 price.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC(August 22, 2019) On Friday, August 22, 2019,Congressman David Price (D-NC), Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommitteereleased a statement announcing that the North Carolina Department of Transportation would receive a $76,888,000 Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair grant from the Federal Railroad Administration. These funds will be used to purchase 13 new passenger rail coaches for the Piedmont line, which offers multiple daily trips between Charlotte and Raleigh, as well as capital improvements for the Charlotte Locomotive and Railcar Maintenance facility. On the T-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, Chairman Price has prioritized funding for rail infrastructure, including the Federal-State Partnership State of Good Repair grants, which are a line-item in the appropriations bill. I am pleased to see North Carolina will receive $76 million in grants to improve service along the Charlotte-Raleigh intercity rail line. These federal investments in our rail system will help provide a safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly transportation alternative for North Carolinians. Just yesterday, I took a fast and comfortable train ride from Durham to Charlotte, where I toured the Charlotte Area Transit System and participated in a transportation summit. This visit confirmed that an interconnected 21st century transportation system could benefit all Americans and is within reach, but we have much work ahead to make it a reality. Together, we must make the case for a transportation policy that combines smart public investment with cooperation from all levels of government and, when appropriate, the private sector, to support multiple modes of transportation that are convenient, safe, and reliable. As Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, I'll continue working toward this end. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
