The CHP grant is the largest this year to any police department in North Carolina, and it will allow FPD to hire 15 new police officers. This COPS grant is great news for the police department and the city of Fayetteville, said Price. The new officers will support FPD's public safety mission as Fayetteville continues to grow. The Community Hiring Program supports hiring at state, local, and tribal police departments nationwide. Grants provide 75 percent of entry-level salaries and benefits for 36 months for new officers, or for rehired officers were laid off due to budget cuts. CHP puts special emphasis on hiring military veterans and community outreach officers.
