Price Says Take Back our Politics with Introduction of Democracy Reform Bills 2019-07-25 2019 2019-07 Democrat House NC David Price P000523 price.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC (July 25, 2019) - Congressman David Price (NC-04), longtime champion for democratic reforms and Vice Chair of the House Democracy Reform Task Force, introduced a package of three campaign finance bills to reduce the influence of big money, bolster transparency, and empower everyday Americans in our political process. Our democracy is under attack by special interest money that wields outsized influence over the electorate, eroding trust and drowning out the voice of the people, said Congressman Price. We can no longer afford to look the other way. That's why I'm introducing a package of democracy reform bills that would reduce the influence of unaccountable Super PACs and mega-donors, expand and enhance political advertisement disclosure rules, and empower small donors by modernizing the presidential public financing system. Our democracy should work For The People, not for corporations and wealthy donors. Congressman Price introduced the following bills: The Empower Act: Public Financing for Presidential Campaigns - Modernizes the existing presidential public financing system to empower small donors and blunt the influence of large donors and special interests. In return for receiving public matching funds, candidates would have to agree to a lower limit on the contributions they raise. Funds would be derived from a small fee assessed when corporations pay criminal or civil fines to the federal government. A link to the bill text can be found here. The Stop Super PAC-Candidate Coordination Act: Cracks Down on Unaccountable Super PACs - Strengthens anti-coordination rules for so-called independent Super PACs to ensure they do not operate solely on behalf of single candidates or as de facto arms of their campaigns. Stand By Every Ad Act: Expands Stand By Your Ad' Rules - Enhances existing stand by your ad disclosure rules to require leaders of corporations, unions, or other organizations who purchase political ads on TV, radio, or online to take responsibility for the ads and reveal their top funders. A link to the bill text can be found here. In January, House Democrats introduced H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which included these and other provisions introduced by Rep. Price. He also authored the Stand by Your Ad law that requires political candidates to approve this message on TV and radio ads. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
