Tom Reed spearheaded the passage of a COVID-19 emergency relief package and voted in favor of the FY21 Omnibus Appropriations bill that passed the House and the Senate. The vote comes after months of hard work between the Problem Solvers Caucus and a bipartisan group of Senators to craft a relief framework that broke the gridlock and laid the parameters for a final deal. We care about prioritizing the needs of the American people; thanks to the hard work of the Problem Solvers Caucus and our colleagues in the Senate, we were able to do just that with this emergency COVID-19 relief package, said Rep. Tom Reed. Separately, we're also proud to see how our tireless advocacy for the 23rd district helped to ensure key resources will continue to flow to our communities. Our work has never been more critical as we look to reform Washington so the American people are once again the priority. The $900 billion COVID-19 emergency relief package will help millions of Americans by specifically providing: Enhanced Unemployment Insurance (UI) - $300 per week Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and small business support - $325 billion Direct stimulus checks - $600 per individual, including children +200,000 households for NY23 Support for Vaccine Development/Distribution, Testing, Health Care Providers, and Health Care Workers - $57.1 billion $1.6 billion for New York Education Funding - $82 billion Rental Assistance and Eviction Moratorium - $25 billion $1.3 billion for New York Nutrition/Agriculture - $26 billion $800 million specific to dairy Child Care - $10 billion $465 million for New York Dedicated Broadband Funding - $7 billion Mental Health & Opioid Treatment - $4.3 billion Transportation (Airlines, Airports, Buses, Transit) - $45 billion While the omnibus includes some partisan spending lines, the end-of-year spending legislation included key victories for New York and the 23rd District: West Valley - $13 million increase in annual funding, up to a record total of $88 million. Great Lakes Restoration Initiative - $330 million, which will ensure our region's lake infrastructure and ecosystem are supported. Special Diabetes Program -Extended for 3 years, which ensures innovative diabetes research can continue. End To Surprise Billing - Ends the practice of surprise medical billing, which ensures the American people have access to a more fair, transparent, and affordable medical system.
