This new legislation, signed into law by President Trump earlier today, ushers in a new era of prosperous economic growth and tax cuts for middle-income Americans. I hope as you celebrate the holidays in the coming weeks and welcome in the new year, you spend time reflecting on the past year with your family. Media Mashup The Cleveland Plain Dealer ran my Op-Ed about my fight to save the historical tax credit in the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act and the benefit it has on the community. You can read the full piecehere. On Tuesday, I spoke with Melissa Francis on Fox News about the tax reform vote that occurred later that day. You can view the cliphere. Washington Wrap Up Earlier this week, I introduced the Creating Access to Rehabilitation for Every Senior (CARES) Act. This bill waives the 3-day inpatient stay requirement for SNFs that meet certain quality measures. This legislation not only better serves patients with more accurately designated care, but also reduces costs to our already stressed healthcare system by relying less on the expensive inpatient hospital setting, and shifting the weight more towards patient-centered care settings such as in an SNF. Also, I led a bipartisan letter addressed to Speaker Ryan and Leader Pelosi to delay the implementation of 340B cuts before the end of the year. This program has been critical in supporting our safety-net providers in helping low income and vulnerable individuals across the country access affordable and comprehensive health care services. I am proud to be able to lead this letter. My staff spoke with local health insurance providers about the need to repeal or delay Obamacares Health Insurance Tax, which goes into effect next year. They discussed the negative effect this tax will have on consumers by driving up the cost of health insurance premiums. Im looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to deliver relief from this tax, and other Obamacare taxes, which drive up healthcare costs for Americans. District Doings My district staff volunteered at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank earlier this week, compiling produce for the food banks community food distribution. Overall, my district staff helped serve over 750 households for their December 2017 produce distribution. I am very grateful my staff had the opportunity to go out in the community and help those in need.
