Richmond. The hardworking employees of Bayou Steel deserve to be rewarded for their work. Instead, their lives have been forever changed as a result of President Trump's short-sighted trade policies wreaking havoc all over the country. Whether it is steel or soybeans, communities in my district and all throughout Louisiana depend on a robust international trade market. Unfortunately, the president has doubled down on destructive tariffs that greatly harm industries and consumers alike. While some farmers have already received billions of bailout dollars for their financial losses, those who worked tirelessly at Bayou Steel are left with nothing at all. That is why I sent a letter today to U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Scalia urging timely consideration of the State of Louisiana's Trade Adjustment Assistance program application.
