Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) released the following statement on the passage of the FUTURE Act, a bipartisan bill that secures critical permanent funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs): The passage of the FUTURE Act marks a turning point both in higher education and American history, said Rep. Richmond. Despite facing persistent financial disadvantages in comparison to majority institutions, HBCUs have continued to produce top tier talent. HBCUs and other MSIs deserve sustainable funding, and this bill provides just that. As a product of an HBCU education and having prominent HBCUs in my district and throughout Louisiana, I am proud that this bill will enable more potential college students the chance at a quality education. We are definitely thankful to Congressman Richmond and the members of Congress who supported passage of the FUTURE Act. Dillard University has been able to use these funds in the past for capacity building activities, from establishing a quality enhancement plan as part of our accreditation process, to support of student housing and instructional technology.
