Richmond Statement on the Death of New Orleans Police Department Officer Marc McNeil 2017-10-13 2017 2017-10 Democrat House LA Cedric Richmond R000588 richmond.house.gov     legacy Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Richmond (LA-02) issued the following statement regarding the death of New Orleans police Department Office March McNeil: “I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the McNeil family.  While the news is still fresh and the grief still very real I know without a doubt Marcus McNeil is a hero and his young life ended too soon,” said Rep. Richmond.  “Every day police officers in New Orleans and across the country risk their lives to keep our communities safe; a tremendous daily sacrifice that is borne by the officers and their loved ones.  Unfortunately, today we add Marcus’s name to a growing list of officers we have lost in the line of duty.” “It is true the law enforcement profession is not one of glory and it does not always garner the respect it deserves.  However, in spite of the climate, brave men and women put on the uniform and face substantial odds on our behalf.  All levels of government, law enforcement organizations, and all members of our community need to come together to address the root cause of violent crime so our children can have a brighter future.  We owe this to Marcus, and we owe it to ourselves.” ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
