The Gigabit Opportunity (GO) Act (H.R. 5082) was introduced today by Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) and it will incentivize private investment in areas that lack high-speed internet access by creating "Gigabit Opportunity Zones". Gigabit Opportunity Zones will allow governors to nominate geographic areas targeted to produce the greatest returns on investment and economic development. "I am excited by the potential of the GO Act and proud to be an original co-sponsor, said Congressman Riggleman. Expanding access to high-speed internet has been a priority of my time in Congress, and the GO Act will open the door for rural and low-income communities that desperately need access to broadband. The GO Act encourages broadband deployment in rural communities by allowing governors to designate "Gigabit Opportunity Zones, provide tax incentives for companies willing to invest in broadband expansion and encourage states to adopt a uniform broadband deployment plan to expedite gigabit-capable rollouts across the country. Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) is the lead sponsor of the bill and Reps.
