Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), ahead of Veterans Day, attended a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center unveiling a commemorative chair honoring American prisoners of war (POW) and soldiers missing in action (MIA). “This Friday, we will celebrate veterans across this country and today, we honored their brothers and sisters who have yet to make it home,” said Davis. “This commemorative chair in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center will remain perpetually unoccupied for the nearly 91,000 brave servicemembers who are waiting to come home and serve as a solemn reminder that freedom is not free. Visitors from Illinois and across the world will be able to pay their respects to the men and women who gave up so much in defense of freedom.” In March 2016, Davis, as a member of the House Administration Committee, led debate on the floor when the bill (H.R. 1670, the National Prisoner of War/Missing In Action Remembrance Act) authorizing the placement of the chair passed the House.
