Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today announced that Adam Walters, a student at Edwardsville High School, is the winner of the 2017 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) in the 13th District of Illinois. Walter’s submission was “Pixel Skies,” a game he developed which features aircraft combat. The CAC encourages high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The 2017 competition had more than 4,100 students participate with original apps submitted from 190 congressional districts across 42 states. “Innovation and technology drive the success of our nation,” said Davis. “This competition not only highlights how critical STEM education is to our economy but it also encourages more students to engage in these fields. Congratulations to Adam and all of this year’s winners for their impressive submissions.” The second place entry in the 13th district competition was awarded to Kajetan Haas of Urbana, whose “Pomelo” submission aims to help teachers create coding lessons for student. Alyxandra Merrit of Normal Community High School was awarded third place for her “Marching Band Buddy” application. Judges for the CAC included representatives from Congressman Davis’s office and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
