Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today announced that he has nominated 11 local students for admittance to the U.S. Service Academies. The nominations for these students were made following an application and interview process. Final determination on admission is made by the individual academies. As a Member of Congress, I have the privilege of nominating these accomplished young men and women to our nations service academies, said Davis. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military upon graduation, so I applaud these students for their decision to serve and wish them the best of luck. Academy Nominations Danielle Cross, Normal, attends Normal Community West High School and is the daughter of John and Laura Cross. Danielle was nominated to both the Military and Naval academies. Isaac Hagberg, Bloomington, attended Normal Community West High School and is the son of Daniel and Jody Hagberg. Isaac was nominated to the Military Academy. Nicholas Jarman, Mount Olive, attended Gillespie High School and is the son of Shane and Jodi Jarman. Nicholas was nominated to the Military Academy. Nicholas Kennedy, Plainview, attends Severna Park High School, MD and is the son of Lawrence and Jana Kennedy. Nicholas was nominated to the Naval Academy. Joshua Moore, Springfield, attended Springfield High School and is the son of Timothy and Donna Moore. Joshua was nominated to the Military Academy. Ryan Poggenpohl, Raymond, attends Lincolnwood High School and is the son of Allen and Rebecca Poggenpohl. Ryan was nominated to the Naval, Military and Merchant Marines academies. Ethan Severns, Bloomington, attended Normal Community West High School and is the son of Gregory and Tracy Severns. Ethan was nominated to the Naval Academy. Devonte Smith, Blue Mound, attends Taylorville High School and is the son of Michael and Lisa Smith. Devonte was nominated to the Military and Naval academies. Gavin Smith, Hinsdale, attends Nazareth Academy and is the son of Brian and Cheryl Smith. Gavin was nominated to the Merchant Marines Academy. Keelie Stork, Jerseyville, attends Marquette Catholic High School and is the daughter of Kevin and Michelle Stork. Keelie was nominated to the Naval and Air Force academies. Brett Tuttle, Jerseyville, attends Jerseyville Community High School and is the son of Bradford and Kristine Tuttle. Brett was nominated to the Military, Air Force, and Naval academies. Liam Vaughn, McLean, attends University High School and is the son of Eric and Mysty Vaughn. Liam was nominated to the Military Academy. Members of Congress are asked to nominate candidates to the U.S. Service Academies each year, and the number of vacancies for each congressional district is determined by law. Candidates can be considered for openings at the U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Co.), U.S. Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.), U.S. Merchant Marines Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.) and the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.). To be considered for appointment all applicants must be: a U.S. citizen; a legal resident of the 13th District; at least 17 but not more than 23 years of age on July 1, 2016; single; and have no dependents. It is recommended that applicants contact the academy or academies of their choice to request a pre-candidate questionnaire, which is the first step in the Admission Offices evaluation.
