Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads program will reimburse the U.S. Forest Service $335,408 and $160,000, respectively, to reconstruct federally-owned roads damaged by heavy rains in December 2015. Roe released the following statement: “The Cherokee National Forest is one of our area’s great treasures, and maintaining access to it is critically important. At a time of tight budget constraints, and with wildfires consuming an ever-increasing portion of the Forest Service’s resources, funding like this will help ensure public access to the Cherokee is maintained. Our national forest is a source of pride for East Tennessee, providing recreational opportunities and helping to drive economic growth.
