Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant of $313,361 will be awarded to Ballad Health to fund a school-based telemedicine virtual health clinic for 8 counties across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia: Having doctors available virtually in schools increases students' access to quality health care and is great news for our community. With parents' permission, children will be able to have a doctor's visit virtually, and parents will have the option to join virtually or in-person at school meaning parents will have an alternative to leaving work to take kids to the doctor. I'm pleased the USDA is directing this Rural Development grant to our area. I'm also grateful to Ballad Health for investing in this project and for their dedication to finding innovative ways to increase access to healthcare. This couldn't come at a better time. We need to get kids back in schools and to give schools the resources to do that safely. Note: In addition to this grant, Ballad Health is contributing $55,299 of the project cost.
