What farmers need is certainty and that is what we have given them with the passage of the Farm Bill. The new Farm Bill strengthens the farm safety net, improves conservation initiatives, makes needed reforms to enhance the integrity of our nutrition programs, and expands exports.The legislation improves the Supplemental Nutrition AssistanceProgram (SNAP) at the state level to cut down on inaccurate payments and requires more support to SNAP recipients in work-training programs. The bill offers some relief to producers who are suffering losses as a result of Chinese tariffs and expands program that seek to connect farmers with new export markets. While more reforms could and should have been made, it is important to get this done so that Hoosier farmers can have certainty in the next growing season and to send this bill to President Trump's desk before Nancy Pelosi is Speaker. The bill passed both the House and Senate and President Trump has indicated his support. When President Trump met with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer he made clear that the American people want the border wall built. While many agencies and departments are funded for the entire fiscal year, the authorization for some expires next week. President Trump has made it clear that he promised the American people to build the wall and Democrats need to stop stalling. I was recently on Fox Business with Trish Regan to express my support for the border wall. It is ridiculous that Democrats continue to oppose construction of the border wall. Doing so puts American lives at risk.It is time that we as a nation start putting the people of this country ahead of illegal aliens. We need to enforce the borders to keep criminal illegal aliens out andkeep Americans safe from contraband that is being smuggled in every day. I loved Fred Fehsenfeld because of dedication and leadership that spawned innovation throughout Indiana. It was an honor to work closely with him throughout my years in Congress, and he will sorely be missed. Indiana and America are a better place because of Fred Fehsenfeld. Fred's legacy is secured through his contributions to our state. In October 2017, Governor Holcomb announced that he had named Interstate 865 after Fehsenfeld "in recognition of his service and contributions to the State of Indiana and the nation." Fehsenfeld expanded and developed his family company into The Heritage Group (THG).
