ROSEN CO-SPONSORS BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO PREVENT CORRUPT POLITICIANS FROM RECEIVING TAXPAYER-FUNDED PENSIONS 2017-12-01 2017 2017-12 Democrat House NV Jacky Rosen R000608 rosen.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) co-sponsored Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney’s (NY-22) No Pensions for Corrupt Politicians Act, which would close an existing loophole that allows members of Congress convicted of bribery, perjury, conspiracy or other related crimes to continue collecting their taxpayer-funded pension. “When a Member of Congress is convicted of abusing the powers of their office, they should have to forfeit any claim to taxpayer-funded pensions,” said Rosen. “This bipartisan bill prevents any person serving in Congress who is convicted of bribery, perjury, conspiracy, or any other corruption-related charge, from later collecting a publicly-funded pension. I am proud to work across the aisle on this commonsense legislation and will continue to advocate for policies that root out government waste and put hardworking Nevada families and taxpayers first.” BACKGROUND:  The No Pensions for Corrupt Politicians Act, H.R. 4314, prevents elected officials convicted of corruption-related charges from collecting pensions. It closes a loophole in the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act (P.L. 110-81) passed during the George W. Bush administration. Under that law, even when an elected official is convicted, they could continue to collect payments as long as they were actively appealing their conviction. H.R. 4314 prevents any pension collection until a ruling is overturned. Congresswoman Rosen has supported a number of efforts to reduce government waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars. In March, Rosen sent a bipartisan letter to House appropriators urging them to prohibit the use of taxpayer money for first-class flights for Members of Congress. In July, Rosen co-sponsored a bill that would prevent U.S. taxpayer money from going to corrupt foreign governments. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
