| https://rosen.house.gov/media/press-releases/rosen-applauds-300000-federal-grant-awarded-startupnv | ROSEN APPLAUDS $300,000 FEDERAL GRANT AWARDED TO STARTUPNV | 2018-12-06 | 2018 | 2018-12 | Democrat | House | NV | Jacky Rosen | R000608 | rosen.house.gov | legacy | WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03), a member of the Congressional Research and Development Caucus, released the following statement applauding news of an Economic Development Administration grant totaling $300,000 awarded to StartUpNV for their Seed Fund Support Grant: This grant will go a long way to strengthen Nevada startup business community by increasing awareness, education, and funding for entrepreneurs, said Rosen. I'm proud of the work StartUpNV has done for the state of Nevada in educating, mentoring, and helping Nevada's startups secure the necessary funding to succeed. I will continue to be an advocate for innovative, pro-growth policies that support Nevada's business community. BACKGROUND: Earlier this year, Rosen joined 70 of her House colleagues in urging the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies to include at least $276 million in funding for the Economic Development Administration, and agency that President Trump's FY2019 Budget proposed cutting by 98 percent. Rosen has urged House appropriators to fund a number of programs to benefit startups and other small businesses in the Fiscal Year 2019 Appropriations bill, including those listed below: Small Business Administration's (SBA) Entrepreneurial Development Program: SBA's Entrepreneurial Development Programs offer training, counseling, and technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners. Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs): SBDCs provide free or low-cost assistance to small businesses using programs customized to local conditions. SBDCs support small business in marketing and business strategy, finance, technology transfer, government contracting, management, manufacturing, engineering, sales, accounting, exporting, and other subjects. In 2017, Nevada SBDC counseled 1,546 clients, helped create/retain 497 jobs, and helped start 148 new businesses. 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC): 21st CCLC supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children (afterschool and summer programs), particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. In Fiscal Year 2017, 9,410 students in Nevada were enrolled in a 21st CCLC program. Industry partnerships to improve apprenticeships to close the skills gap: In order to expand and improve apprenticeships and work-based learning programs, we need coordinated multi-employer apprenticeship programs and strong local partnerships that respond to local workforce needs. This letter asks for report language to strengthen investments in work-based learning programs that respond to local industry demand. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
