Jackson Women’s Health Organization, challenging Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban: “Overturning Roe v. Wade would be a blatant attack on reproductive freedom and violate nearly 50 years of legal precedent,” said Congresswoman Ross. “The vast majority of Americans agree that women should be able to make their own decisions about their health and get the care they need. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe, many more states in the U.S., including North Carolina, could be emboldened to enact abortion bans, disproportionally hurting women with disabilities, minorities, and those in low-income and rural areas. I will continue to fight to ensure millions of women across the U.S. have access to safe, legal abortions. “As the Supreme Court takes up this case that could determine the fate of women’s access to reproductive health care for years to come, we are reminded that we cannot rely solely on our courts to protect this right. Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health Protection Act to ensure that all people have access to the reproductive freedoms they are guaranteed by law.
