Ross R000305 ross.house.gov ross https://ross.house.gov/press-releases scraper Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation to enshrine into law women’s reproductive freedom and access to reproductive health care. Following Texas’ enactment of the nation’s most restrictive abortion ban. This landmark legislation safeguards the right to access to abortion care free from political interference. “Blatantly unconstitutional abortion bans in states like Texas and Mississippi represent a dangerous threat to women’s reproductive freedom everywhere,” said Congressman Ross. “In failing to block Texas’ egregious abortion law from taking effect, the Supreme Court abdicated its responsibility to protect American women from the whims of legislatures bent on restricting our constitutional rights. Today the House sent a clear signal to state legislatures across the country that we will not sit idly by in the face of these dangerous attacks on women’s reproductive care.” The Women’s Health Protection Act would establish the federal statutory right for health care providers to provide abortion care and for patients to receive it, free from unnecessary state bans and restrictions intended to impede or block this access. Congresswoman Ross denounced the Texas abortion ban when it went into effect and joined her House Judiciary colleagues in urging Attorney General Merrick Garland to use the full force of the Department of Justice to combat it. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T20:17:01Z
