Harper. This case follows the decision of the Supreme Court of North Carolina to strike down gerrymandered redistricting maps approved by the North Carolina General Assembly’s Republican majority. “In just one week, a conservative majority on the Supreme Court has handed down disastrous decisions that will have extreme ramifications for years to come. They have stripped women of their reproductive freedom. They have jeopardized gun safety regulations across the country. They have encouraged violations of the separation of church and state. They have gutted our ability to respond to the climate crisis. And now they have decided to take up a case that could determine the fate of free and fair elections in North Carolina and beyond. “I am extremely concerned about the outcome of this case. The notion that legislatures should be immune from judicial oversight in drawing state and congressional maps has no precedent.
