In 2022, it was estimated that abortion pills account for half of all abortions in the U.S. “I am grateful that the Supreme Court has heeded the calls of the Biden administration and decided to review a lower court’s disastrous decision to restrict access to mifepristone – a safe, effective medication that has been widely prescribed by doctors and used by women for abortion and miscarriage care. While access to mifepristone will continue as the court reviews this case, women should not have to continue facing threats to their reproductive health care, and the courts should not be the arbiter of access. “Women in North Carolina and across the country should be free to make their own decisions about their own bodies. Restricting access to safe medication would be a grave mistake that would put millions of women in jeopardy and prevent doctors from doing their jobs.
