Dodd-Frank sets an arbitrary $50 billion threshold for identifying SIFIs and deciding which firms pose a risk to the stability of the financial system. Congressman Rothfus was a sponsor of the original legislation on which this bill was based. “SIFI designation impacts a firm’s lending ability, and therefore, a firm’s customers and their customers’ ability to thrive. Arbitrary and heavy-handed Dodd-Frank rules and regulations, including SIFI designations, have directly hurt small businesses making it harder for them to create jobs and making it harder for average households to get credit. This decision is not trivial,” said Congressman Rothfus. “If we really care about protecting financial stability and having a healthy financial system, we have a responsibility to pursue a fairer, more transparent, and more accurate process. The approach set forth under H.R. 6392 represents a more rational process for evaluating financial institutions, as opposed to the Washington tradition of a one-size-fits-all bludgeon.” -30- | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
