Dutch Ruppersberger this evening issued the following statement after President Donald Trump terminated Chris Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The agency was created in 2018 by legislation signed into law by President Trump, who appointed Krebs as its first director. Krebs earlier this year created a widely-praised Rumor Control website to fact-check information associated with the presidential election. Our country is less safe without Chris Krebs. Chris took his mission seriously and did everything in his power to remain an apolitical arbiter of the truth, earning support at all levels of government, in academia and throughout the private sector. It is precisely because he was so successful at his mission which included safeguarding our election that Chris now finds himself jobless. Chris's team, along with election security leaders across the country,posted a truthful statement that, there is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes or was in any way compromised, which runs counter to President Trump's reckless, dangerous and outright false claims that this election was a security failure. Now, our country finds itself without a smart and capable cyber chief in one of the most vulnerable times our nation has ever seen during a worsening pandemic and in the middle of a presidential transition.
