Rush (D-Ill.) released the following statement on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Texas v. United States to strike down the Patient Protect Affordable Care Act's (ACA) individual mandate provision: I am deeply disappointed in the Fifth Circuit's ruling to strike down the individual mandate and to force millions of Americans to continue to live in fear that the ACA could be struck down in its entirety. The ACA has provided benefits to millions of Americans, such as ensuring protections for those with pre-existing conditions, expanding Medicaid eligibility to low-income individuals in many states, including Illinois; and requiring that patients have access to preventive services at no-cost; just to name a few of the many monumental accomplishments of this landmark legislation. President Trump and his administration have attempted to sabotage the ACA at every turn. While the President may be obsessed with taking away health care from millions of Americans, I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to do just the opposite: we will fight tooth and nail to do everything we can to ensure that Americans have access to affordable and comprehensive health care.
