The Christmas Edition for 2016 highlights 10 items of government waste, totaling almost $140 billion dollars in taxpayer funds. Some of the items include how the Department of Defense spent $1.5 million dollars on a slaughterhouse in Afghanistan while only completing 10 percent of the project; $150 million on lavish rented villas in Afghanistan with flat-screen TVs for each room and many other amenities; $47,530 on elegant bicycle shelters for the National Institutes of Health; and $137 billion on payments to the wrong people, in the wrong amount, for the wrong reasons. Congressman Russell said about his Waste Watch series, “It never ceases to amaze me the amount of waste the federal government produces.  A lot of these instances could have been prevented with some common sense, and I hope that we can continue to change the culture.” Through his first term in Congress, Congressman Russell highlighted nearly a quarter trillion dollars in government waste with Waste Watch.
