According to the U.S. Geological Survey, climate-harming pollution from fossil fuel development on public lands and waters account for nearly a quarter of the U.S. total. The goal of our American Public Lands and Waters Climate Solution Act is to get to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from public lands and waters by 2040. One way to do that is to charge for fossil fuels from public lands and to use the money to help workers and communities transition away from polluting energy sources. As Chair Grijalva said, Our public lands and waters should be managed for the public's benefit, not for the benefit of oil, gas and coal corporations. I thank the Chair for his leadership. Island communities, like the Marianas, are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and are often the first to face its damaging consequences. I look forward to the day our federal public lands are no longer a major source of harmful carbon gas pollution. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
