https://sablan.house.gov/press-release/cnmi-department-finance-reminds-businesses-issue-receipts-every-transaction CNMI Department of Finance reminds businesses to issue receipts for every transaction 2018-11-05 2018 2018-11 Democrat House MP Gregorio Sablan S001177 sablan.house.gov     legacy FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 5, 2018 The Department of Finance and the Division of Revenue and Taxation (DOF-DRT) advise all businesses to ensure an accurate record of sales through the issuance of receipts or proof of purchases that include, but are not limited to, electronic or manual receipts during this restoration period. Secretary of Finance Larrisa Larson stated that while commercial sales continue throughout the Commonwealth and utilities are restored overtime, affected business are still required to issue manual sales receipts for all business transactions. Since the establishment of Public Law 18-35, which provided revisions to the Sales Receipt Act, purposely failing to produce business record of transactions and failure to comply is punishable by fines ranging from $350 to $1500 dependent on subsequent offenses. Dishonest business operators cause a significant loss of revenue to the CNMI and more than three violations will trigger an automatic revocation of business licenses. With the CNMI in recovery status, we still want to ensure that our community is safeguarded from unethical business practices and that Commonwealth revenue is protected moving forward. We ask the public to contact our office for any questions or concerns regarding this advisory or for more information on related matters, Larson said.
